What Is Included in a Residential Weight Loss Program?

A piece-by-piece look at what a residential weight loss program includes, from arrival-day testing and daily training to meals, coaching, housing, and aftercare.

A residential weight loss program puts the hardest parts of losing weight in one place: what you eat, how you train, where you sleep, and how you know whether it is working. How much of that a program actually includes varies, and the details matter more than the headline. Here is what a stay at Fitness Retreat in Scottsdale, Arizona includes, piece by piece, and what each part is there to do.

Testing on Day One, Then Every Week

The program starts with four tests on arrival day. Together they give the coaching team a baseline that your meals and training are built from.

Hydrostatic body composition. An underwater weighing test that shows how much of your weight is lean muscle and how much is fat. It becomes the reference point for judging whether the weight you lose later is fat or muscle.

Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR). Measures how many calories your body burns at rest. Your meal plan is set to that number, and it also sets the daily calorie-burn goal you work toward each week.

VO2 Max. Measures how efficiently your body uses oxygen during exercise. The result is used to set your training intensity and find your fat-burning heart-rate zone.

360° Styku body scan. Maps your measurements, posture, and symmetry. It flags imbalances so your training plan can strengthen weak points and protect your joints.

Testing does not stop after day one. A weigh-in and body composition test is repeated every week, and your plan is adjusted based on what it shows. If you are losing muscle instead of fat, or progress stalls, the weekly test is where it gets caught.

Five to Seven Hours of Coached Training a Day

Training takes up most of the day. Fitness Retreat schedules five to seven hours of it, split into shorter sessions rather than one long workout. The program lists strength training, HIIT, circuits, core work, hybrid yoga, swimming, and hikes on the desert trails around Scottsdale.

Guests are placed into levels based on flexibility, movement, weight, age, and goals, so a first-time exerciser and a former athlete are not doing the same session at the same intensity. Coaches stay on the floor during group workouts to correct form, and your workout plan changes as your weekly results come in.

Meals Measured to Your Numbers

Every meal is chef-prepared and portioned to the protein, carbohydrate, and fat targets set by your test results. Meals are spaced every three to four hours to keep your energy and blood sugar steady through a long training day.

The kitchen works around dietary needs, including vegan, dairy-free, and gluten-free diets and food allergies. The aim is not only to feed you during the stay but to show you how to shop, prep, and eat at home. You can read more about the approach on the nutrition and meals page.

Lectures, Classes, and Life Coaching

Part of each day is spent learning rather than training. New guests start with an orientation, and the schedule includes sessions such as Nutrition 101 and Weight Training 101 so you understand why your plan is set up the way it is.

Life coaching workshops focus on the habits and thought patterns behind your weight. The behavior side of the program is based on founder Eric Viskovicz's book, The Blue Print Method.

Housing and Getting Around

Your room is part of the stay. Retreat housing comes in three tiers: a shared room with a shared bathroom, a private room with a shared bathroom, and a private suite with its own bathroom. Guests who would rather arrange their own place can choose a live-out option that includes everything except housing.

On the program's sample schedule, shuttles run between the residences, the main residence, and the training facility known as the Hangar, so you are not arranging your own rides to scheduled sessions.

What a Day Looks Like

Fitness Retreat publishes a sample Monday on its program page. It shows how the pieces above fit into one day.

Morning. Breakfast at 8:30, then open gym, strength training, a HIIT workout, and core work before noon.

Midday. Lunch at 12:30, with orientation for new guests.

Afternoon. A circuit, a Weight Training 101 class, and hybrid yoga.

Evening. A Nutrition 101 lecture at 5:00, dinner at 5:30, and a shuttle back to the residences at 6:30.

Other days mix in hikes, swimming, and different classes, but the shape stays the same: meals every few hours, training spread through the day, and some time set aside for learning.

Support After You Leave

Graduates continue with Fit Culture, an app built from the data collected during the stay. It includes adaptive workout plans, personalized meal plans and recipes, mindset and coaching modules, and tools for tracking weight, macros, calories, and hydration. If you are still deciding on length, our guide to how long to stay at a weight loss retreat explains how the stay and the plan for home work together.

What Is Not Included

A few things sit outside the base program. Optional add-ons, such as private training or coaching sessions, massages, cupping, a private cooking experience, and the Metabolic Stack upgrade, are booked separately. Travel to Scottsdale is not listed as included, transportation is not provided outside scheduled activities, and guests fill their own prescriptions. Current package rates are on the pricing page, and the travel and illness policy covers refunds and missed days.

The Bottom Line

A stay at Fitness Retreat includes four arrival tests and weekly retesting, five to seven hours of coached training a day, chef-prepared meals measured to your numbers, lectures and life coaching, and housing. If you are comparing residential programs, use that as a checklist: ask each one which of these is in the price and how often your progress is measured.
